OVERVIEW
Clean Energy Council (CEC) is a not-for-profit organisation that promotes and accelerates renewable energy use and affiliated industries in Australia. CEC’s vision is to decarbonise the Australian energy system into a fully renewable and clean energy framework. CEC encourages renewable energy development and deployment, as well as monitoring and publishing recent progress made in the industry to facilitate exposure and dissemination.
CEC acts as an intermediary platform bringing together government, industry and academia. The organisation receives funds from membership fees, providing accredited certification to retailers and renewable energy products, and commission fees for policy advice and technical analysis. Members can engage with and contribute their insights and expertise to the work of the CEC through several committees.
To communicate the advantages of clean energy, CEC educates the public through a variety of platforms. They release news announcements and highlight important events in the clean energy industry, as well as organising conferences and forums. For example, Installer Nights, Wind Industry and Energy Storage forums are held to facilitate constructive collaborations among experts and academics, and to discuss current challenges and prospects of Australia’s energy future. Other events include an annual Australian Clean Energy Summit plus webinars, masterclasses and careers expos.
CEC harnesses the strength of its membership to advocate for the renewables industry and work with industry and government on key policy issues. For example, CEC submitted a response to the Australian government regarding the Climate Change Bills 2020, showing support for a planned transition towards a net zero emissions target by 2050.
A challenge in the transition to a 100% renewable Australia, is having the infrastructure. CEC provide strategy and direction to establishing a grid that supports renewables.
CEC is involved in initiatives that set renewable energy targets, identify global trends and technological advances, develop the workforce, and facilitate community engagement.
