Overview
One Planet Network is a global multi-stakeholder partnership that drives implementation of the 10-Year Framework of Programmes (10YFP) on Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP). It seeks to coordinate efforts across governments, business, civil society, academia and UN entities towards achieving SDG 12 (sustainable consumption and production).
Main Focus and Goals
One Planet Network’s principal objective is to accelerate the shift to sustainable consumption and production globally, thereby contributing not only to SDG 12 but to other goals linked to resource efficiency, climate, biodiversity and pollution. A 2023–2030 Global Strategy lays out four strategic pillars: embedding SCP in global agendas, enabling transformative actions through partnerships, empowering stakeholders (especially in developing countries), and building a broad movement for behavioural change. In financial terms, One Planet Network encourages procurement, investment and policy that incorporate lifecycle impacts, circular economy principles and supply-chain transparency.
Structure and Governance
The network is organised around six thematic programmes: Sustainable Public Procurement; Sustainable Buildings & Construction; Sustainable Tourism; Sustainable Food Systems; Consumer Information for SCP; and Sustainable Lifestyles & Education.
Each programme is led by partner organisations and supported by working groups. It operates through over 140 national focal points across countries, a Board (with UN regional representation) and a Secretariat housed at UNEP.
Activities, Tools and Resources
One Planet Network acts as a knowledge hub and digital platform, offering tools, databases, guidelines, case studies, policies and project listings. Its SDG 12 Hub consolidates national reporting on SCP indicators, enabling comparisons across countries. Through its Knowledge Centre, it publishes research (for example on value-chain approaches, inequality-aware SCP policies and science-based interventions) to guide practitioners and policymakers. It also convenes global forums, webinars and events, where delegates endorse key action areas, share innovations and strengthen collaboration. Together, these elements make One Planet Network both an implementing mechanism for SCP and a catalyst of sustainable finance aligned decisions in procurement, investing, policy and capacity building.
