Overview
Oxygen Consulting was established in 2018 in Aotearoa New Zealand to support organisations in embedding sustainability across business operations. The firm’s purpose is to help clients balance financial, social and environmental outcomes, under the overarching tagline “Balance today, to maximise tomorrow”. Its philosophy centres on equipping businesses to thrive by integrating sustainability, rather than treating it as a standalone function.
Mission and focus areas
The mission of Oxygen Consulting is to empower organisations to achieve sustainability impact through strategy, measurement, disclosure and capability-building. Core activities include carbon, climate and nature services (such as greenhouse-gas inventories, target-setting and nature-related disclosures) and sustainability strategy advisory (materiality assessments, ESG policy development, supply-chain risk). As such, the firm contributes to sustainable finance and ESG integration by aligning clients’ reporting, governance and operational practices with global standards and investor expectations (for example, frameworks such as GRI, IFRS S2, TNFD)
Structure and governance
Oxygen Consulting is led by founder and director Sarah Holden, who has over 25 years of experience in sustainability leadership. The company is a Certified B Corporation, reflecting its governance commitments to social and environmental performance. It operates through a team of senior consultants, advisory staff and capability-builders and maintains partnerships with organisations such as AUT (Auckland University of Technology), the Sustainable Business Network and the Sustainable Business Council in their research programmes.
Programs and offerings
The firm’s service offerings include measurement and management of emissions (Scopes 1-3), transition planning, science-aligned target-setting, climate and nature disclosures, full sustainability reporting, and assurance support. They also offer sustainability strategy and advisory work (materiality assessments, ESG policy development, supply-chain risk management) and capability-building through coaching, mentoring, in-house advisory and recruitment support for sustainability professionals. Additionally, they publish research reports such as “Insights on Aotearoa New Zealand Sustainability Professionals”, offering data-driven insights for practitioners. These resources support finance professionals and sustainability practitioners by aligning operational, strategic and reporting requirements to evolving regulatory and investor expectations.
