Overview
Luxembourg Sustainable Finance Initiative (LSFI) is a non-profit association established in January 2020 to support the development and implementation of sustainable finance in Luxembourg. It was founded by the Luxembourg Government (Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development), Luxembourg for Finance and the High Council for Sustainable Development. LSFI functions as Luxembourg’s coordinating entity on sustainable finance, aiming to drive progress across financial sector actors and position the country as a global sustainable finance centre.
Mission and focus areas
LSFI’s main objective is to raise awareness, promote and help develop sustainable finance initiatives within the Luxembourg financial ecosystem. Its work aligns with Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) considerations by facilitating the transition of financial institutions towards more sustainable practices. The organisation also contributes to implementing the Luxembourg Sustainable Finance Strategy, which focuses on areas including climate and biodiversity finance, knowledge sharing, innovation, and measuring progress of sustainable finance adoption. LSFI’s work supports broader goals of mainstreaming sustainable and impact investing, strengthening competencies, and guiding market participants in integrating sustainability-driven value creation into investment decision-making.
Structure and governance
LSFI operates with a governance framework that includes a Board of Directors and specialised advisory bodies such as an Impact Investing Advisory Board and a Scientific Advisory Board. It collaborates with numerous stakeholders from the public sector, financial industry, civil society and academia. These structures guide its strategic direction and foster cooperation among sustainable finance actors. Regular stakeholder assemblies and partnerships enhance engagement across sectors and inform LSFI’s forward-looking initiatives.
Programs and offerings
LSFI delivers a range of outputs and programmes to support sustainable finance practitioners. These include annual Luxembourg Sustainable Finance Studies, regulatory resource toolkits, masterclasses, working groups and the LSFI Summit, which convenes experts to share insights on sustainable finance trends. It also curates a comprehensive Resource Hub with data platforms, frameworks, standards, labels, training and regulatory information for financial professionals. Through these programmes, LSFI equips stakeholders with resources to navigate sustainable finance practices and regulatory developments effectively.
