Overview
Arketa Institute for Post-Growth Finance is a nonprofit research and advocacy organisation focused on rethinking finance and economics for a sustainable future. It emerged to challenge conventional growth-centric economic models and promote financial systems aligned with ecological limits and human wellbeing. Its work centres on how finance can operate within planetary boundaries while serving societal needs.
Mission and focus areas
Arketa Institute’s mission is to engage investment and sustainability professionals on how finance must evolve to support environmental sustainability and community wellbeing rather than prioritise perpetual growth. It emphasises ecological economics as a foundational framework and seeks to normalise conversations on post-growth and growth-independent financial practices. Its role includes generating research insights, convening discussions, and contributing to the development of solutions that shift financial decision-making toward resilience and sustainability.
Structure and governance
Arketa Institute was co-founded by finance and sustainability practitioners including Matt Orsagh, Anastasia Linn and Steve Rocco, each bringing experience across research, finance and leadership. The organisation operates with a small leadership team and engages through collaborations, partnerships and participation in broader networks like Research & Degrowth International. It functions across several countries including the United States, France and Switzerland.
Programs and offerings
Arketa Institute produces research publications, including whitepapers on post-growth finance, and reports such as By Disaster or Design and A Path to Post-Growth Pensions. It curates resources, events and dialogues on ecological economics, and offers educational content such as online courses and animated explainers. The organisation also contributes to public and professional discourse through presentations, workshops and partnerships with academic, sustainability and finance networks.
Our mission
At Arketa Institute, we work with investment professionals and others within the finance industry to align the financial system with environmental and wellbeing needs, now and into the future.
By providing research insights, collaborating on solution development, and directly supporting our peers in the finance industry, we seek to contribute to an economy that can provide for the needs of all within the limits of our planet.
