Overview
Texas Campaign for the Environment (TCE) is a grassroots environmental advocacy organisation established in 1991 and operating across Texas. It focuses on protecting public health and natural resources by addressing pollution and environmental degradation. Its overall purpose is to empower communities to influence environmental policy and promote a more sustainable future.
Mission and focus areas
TCE’s mission centres on engaging communities through grassroots organising, public education and advocacy to achieve clean air, water and land. Its work targets issues such as fossil fuel development, petrochemical expansion, waste management, and recycling, often linking environmental harm to social and health impacts.
The organisation contributes indirectly to sustainability and ESG-related outcomes by advocating for stronger environmental regulation, corporate accountability and community-led decision-making. Its campaigns on waste reduction, extended producer responsibility and fossil fuel finance are particularly relevant to sustainable economic transition and risk management.
Structure and governance
TCE operates as a non-profit advocacy organisation (501(c)(4)) with a related charitable entity, Texas Campaign for the Environment Fund. It is led by an executive director and governed by a board, with staff and organisers based in multiple Texas cities including Austin, Houston and Dallas.
The organisation works through decentralised, community-based organising, collaborating with local groups, national coalitions and global alliances. Its structure emphasises grassroots participation and partnerships with frontline communities affected by pollution.
Programs and offerings
TCE delivers advocacy campaigns, community organising initiatives and policy engagement activities aimed at reducing pollution and advancing environmental justice. Its methods include door-to-door canvassing, digital outreach, lobbying and public campaigns targeting corporate and governmental actors.
Key program areas include waste reduction and recycling policy, opposition to polluting industrial projects, and campaigns addressing fossil fuel infrastructure and plastics. The organisation also provides public education and action-oriented research, supporting communities to engage in environmental decision-making and policy processes.
Our mission is to engage people and communities through face-to-face public education, grassroots organizing, and action-oriented research for a safer, healthier Texas.
