Overview
Futureproofing Institute is an independent organisation focused on advancing long-term value creation through integrated approaches to corporate finance and investment. Building on more than a decade of collaboration between Professors Dirk Schoenmaker and Willem Schramade, the institute emerged following the publication of Corporate Finance for Long-Term Value (2023) and the development of the Futureproof Index methodology. Its objective is to shift attention beyond financial performance by incorporating social and environmental value into company assessment.
Mission and focus areas
The institute aims to make Integrated Value and Futureproofing Ratios recognised standards for investment, policy and strategic decision-making. Its work addresses the limitations of conventional financial valuation by incorporating environmental and social externalities into company valuation, enabling a more comprehensive assessment of long-term resilience and transition risk.
Futureproofing Institute contributes to sustainable finance by producing objective analyses of corporate financial, social and ecological value. Its research supports investors, businesses and policymakers seeking to better understand how sustainability factors influence long-term corporate performance and value creation.
Structure and governance
The organisation combines academic leadership with an operational management team. Its Academic Council includes Professors Willem Schramade and Dirk Schoenmaker, while the Operations Team comprises a Director, Head of Research, Head of Communications and Chief Financial Officer. Futureproofing Institute also collaborates with external partners, including Dutch-American firm ftrprf, to expand the application of its methodologies.
Programs and offerings
Futureproofing Institute publishes research reports, academic papers and practical methodologies that help organisations measure integrated value. Its flagship outputs include the AEX Futureproof Index, the DAX-AEX Futureproof Index and sector-specific assessments such as the NS Futureproof Index, alongside detailed methodological annexes to promote transparency.
The institute also provides open-access educational resources, including Corporate Finance for Long-Term Value, which explains how sustainability considerations can be incorporated into corporate finance and valuation techniques. These resources support finance professionals in evaluating long-term risks, opportunities and sustainable value creation.
