Overvie
Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AUASB) was established under section 227A of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission Act 2001 as an independent statutory agency. It develops, issues and maintains high-quality auditing, assurance and sustainability assurance standards, supporting confidence in external reporting across Australia’s public and private sectors.
Mission and focus areas
AUASB’s mission is to enhance the credibility of assurance engagements through globally aligned standards and guidance. Its focus areas include auditing, review and other assurance services, sustainability and climate assurance, and quality management. Through its work, AUASB contributes to sustainable finance by improving the reliability of ESG-related disclosures and assurance.
Structure and governance
AUASB operates under the Australian Government’s Financial Reporting Council oversight. The Board comprises an independent Chair and members appointed based on expertise in auditing, governance, academia and industry. Its work is supported by a technical staff team and guided by due process, consultation, and collaboration with the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) and international standard setters.
