B Lab is a non-profit organisation at the forefront of the global movement to redefine success in business by encouraging companies to balance profit and purpose. Founded in 2006, B Lab’s main focus is on certifying B Corporations—businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

The key goal of B Lab is to drive positive change in the business world by promoting a new paradigm that prioritizes ethical practices. B Lab operates the B Impact Assessment, a comprehensive tool that evaluates companies based on their impact on workers, customers, community, and the environment. Companies that meet the rigorous standards become certified B Corporations, joining a global community dedicated to using business as a force for good.

Structured as a non-profit, B Lab operates with a multi-stakeholder governance model, ensuring representation from various sectors. The organisation collaborates with businesses, governments, and investors to advocate for policies that support responsible business practices. B Lab’s global structure includes regional offices, allowing it to have a local impact while contributing to a broader, worldwide movement.

In the context of sustainable finance, B Lab plays a crucial role by influencing investment decisions through the B Corp certification. Certified B Corporations showcase how businesses can integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations into their operations, attracting socially conscious investors. The B Impact Assessment tool enables companies to assess their impact comprehensively, providing valuable data for investors seeking sustainable opportunities.

Useful resources provided by B Lab include the B Impact Assessment tool, which serves as a practical guide for companies looking to measure and improve their social and environmental performance. Additionally, the organisation offers educational resources, events, and a network of certified B Corporations to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing among businesses committed to positive impact.

B Lab’s impact extends beyond certification; it is actively involved in research and policy advocacy, contributing to the development of best practices in sustainable business. By providing a framework for companies to assess and enhance their impact, B Lab empowers businesses to navigate the complex landscape of sustainable and ethical practices, fostering a global movement towards responsible capitalism.

B Lab is the nonprofit network transforming the global economy to benefit all people, communities, and the planet.
