Business for Nature is a global coalition comprising over 100 influential partner organisations and forward-thinking companies. Its primary mission is to drive credible business action and policy ambition towards achieving a nature-positive economy by 2030.
The organisation focuses on three key priorities:
- Global advocacy: Unifying and amplifying a leading business voice to call for ambitious nature-related policies at the global level.
- National implementation: Facilitating business-government dialogues in countries such as India, South Africa, Malaysia, and Colombia to inform the development of business chapters within National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs).
- Business action: Engaging companies to simplify the landscape and amplify existing initiatives, thereby encouraging further business action on nature.
In relation to sustainable finance, Business for Nature advocates for aligning financial flows to transition towards a nature-positive, net-zero, and equitable economy. This involves encouraging businesses and financial institutions to assess and disclose their risks, impacts, and dependencies on nature, as well as to take action to protect and restore natural ecosystems.
The coalition provides several resources to support businesses in integrating nature into their strategies. Notably, it has developed high-level business actions on nature, offering companies key steps to contribute meaningfully to reversing nature loss. These actions include assessing impacts and dependencies, setting science-based targets, transforming operations, and disclosing performance.
Additionally, Business for Nature offers sector-specific guidance, outlining priority actions for various industries to contribute towards a nature-positive economy. This sectoral approach recognises the unique interactions different sectors have with nature and provides tailored recommendations accordingly.
Through its initiatives, Business for Nature aims to create an enabling environment where businesses are empowered and held accountable for their actions towards nature. By fostering collaboration between the private sector and governments, the coalition strives to halt and reverse nature loss within this decade, ensuring a sustainable future for all.
