Overview
Changing Markets Foundation is an independent nonprofit organisation formed in 2015 to accelerate and scale up solutions to sustainability challenges by leveraging the power of markets. It focuses on shifting market share from environmentally or socially harmful products and practices to those that benefit people and the planet. The organisation operates internationally, working with diverse partners to influence corporate behaviour and market dynamics.
Mission and focus areas
The core mission of Changing Markets Foundation is to expose irresponsible corporate practices and drive change towards more sustainable markets. It aims to create self-reinforcing market shifts in which companies that adopt environmentally and socially progressive practices gain market advantage over those that neglect them. Its thematic work covers climate, food systems, plastic pollution, ocean health and corporate misinformation. Campaigns include efforts to reduce methane emissions in agriculture, reveal corporate greenwashing and address pollution from fast fashion and plastics. This work aligns with broader sustainability goals and supports market transformation by promoting transparency and accountability.
Structure and governance
Changing Markets Foundation operates under a governance framework led by named founders and a leadership team. Founders include Joakim Bergman (Founder & Executive Chair) and Paul Gilding (Founder), with a senior leadership team headed by Chief Executive Officer Nusa Urbancic. The organisation also includes directors and senior campaign managers with expertise in campaigning, research and sustainable policy. It works collaboratively with NGOs, research institutions and foundations to run focused market campaigns.
Programs and offerings
The organisation’s key outputs include investigative research reports, public campaigns and sector analyses that highlight sustainability challenges and corporate practices. Reports examine issues such as methane emissions, greenwashing and supply-chain impacts. It also supports tools and initiatives that provide evidence for advocacy and advance public understanding of sustainability problems and solutions. These resources are used by practitioners, policymakers and civil society to inform decisions and promote systemic change.
