OVERVIEW
The Environmental Research Letters (ERL) is an open access peer review journal published by IOP Publishing. ERL focuses on the interdisciplinary nature of environmental science, recognising the wide-ranging contributions to the development of methods, tools and evaluation strategies relevant to the field. It publishes submissions from across all components of the Earth system including land, atmosphere, cryosphere, biosphere and hydrosphere, and exchanges between these components.
The core of ERL’s content draws from observations, numerical modeling, theoretical and experimental approaches to environmental science, and especially science relevant to policy, impacts, and decision-making. In addition, approaches from a range of physical and natural sciences, economics, and political, sociological and legal studies are also included.
Special requirements of ERL are such that all articles should provide a timely and important contribution to environmental science. ERL aims to publish articles that appeal to the journal’s broad and multi-disciplinary readership. As such, it seeks to present research relevant to multiple disciplines and accessible to an audience outside of the field. This gives authors the opportunity to convey the importance of their work to a wider community, including policymakers and the public, in addition to specialists in their field.
To ensure maximum appeal to the journal’s broad readership the peer review of articles is overseen by the Editorial Board and Editorial Office. The Editorial Board is comprised of an Executive Board who take an advisory lead on journal strategy and peer review, Reviews Board to commission articles for our ongoing reviews program, and Advisory Board to facilitate the peer review process and wider commissioned article program.
