OVERVIEW
Established in 1985, Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) consists of nine main businesses. It is currently majority-owned by Deutsche Bourse Group and Genstar Capital. It’s main businesses include:
- Governance
Research and recommendations on corporate governance, to identify environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risks, and as a way to manage proxy voting needs.
- ESG
ESG enables investors to integrate responsible investing policies and practices into their business and portfolios, and provides clients with responsible investment solutions.
- Market Intelligence (MI)
MI is the research centre for ISS covering global assets, insurance, funds, annuities, mortgages and other instruments and securities.
- Transaction Cost Analysis & Surveillance (TCA)
Through ISS’ Liquid Metrix platform, TCA is provided across every public order and trade executed globally. TCA is based on one million securities and instruments, 260 exchanges, and covers 89 countries.
- Fund Services (FWW)
FWW helps investors and fund advisors with investment decision-making by providing transparent, up-to-date, and accurate fund information across 35K share classes and 1.5K data records.
- Securities Class Action Services (SCAS)
SCAS is the complete end-to-end global litigation research and claims filing provider for securities class actions and antitrust cases. SCAS contains 38 years of historical data, with 12K cases spanning the globe and 124K unique security identifiers.
- Media
Media incorporates a large dataset of publications, digital assets, and research. ISS Media currently has 31K print subscribers and 13K digital subscribers.
- Economic Value Added (EVA)
EVA provides a platform for investors and clients to compare their current performance against thousands of companies worldwide with comparable accounting adjustments to drive informed decision-making.
- ISS Corporate Solutions (ICS)
ICS is a platform offered by ISS that allows companies to design and manage their corporate governance, executive remuneration, and sustainability programs in one place.

FUNDING SOURCES
ISS is funded by contracts with a fixed term, recurring services and non-recurring service contracts. The revenues from these contracts are recognised on a pro-rata basis over the term of the contracted services to the customer.
