OVERVIEW
Maastricht University School of Business and Economics (SBE) was founded in 1984 as one of the six faculties at Maastricht University. The school is now among one percent of business schools globally that is Triple Crown accredited (EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA) placing it amongst some of the best business schools in the world.
SBE is well regarded for the quality of its research, bringing together a wide array of expertise to consider and solve many global challenges. The seven research themes bring together a broad range of academic expertise to stimulate interdisciplinary work that looks beyond boundaries to thematic commonalities and collaborative solutions, and shares the methods and findings with students and industry.
SBE’s strategy is to focus on challenges related to sustainable development, digitalisation and globalisation (SDDG). With an emphasis on these areas, they stimulate the co-creation of knowledge with external stakeholders, taking into account the current challenges.
Their research seeks to go beyond academia through the work of their UMIO branch. UMIO is the executive branch of SBE. They use their research to consult outside organisations and individuals on various management issues. Across a range of programs including the MaastrichtMBA and EuroMBA, UMIO’s brings together academic experts, industry professionals and students in a dynamic, international, small-scale learning environment focused on practical outcomes for real-world challenges.
As part of the wider university, the SBE has implemented the Sustainable UM2030 taskforce in order to focus their research and degree programmes on sustainability issues. In addition, this taskforce aims to improve the sustainability of their operations with the goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2030.
