OVERVIEW
Founded in 1914, MIT Sloan School of Management was created to respond to the advances in management theory. It is located in the city of Cambridge in the United States. Over the years, many notable academics taught and researched at the faculty, including Nobel prize laureates in economics such as Paul Samuelson, Robert Solow, Franco Modigliani, Robert Merton, and Bengt Holmström.
In addition to the reputable alumni and staff members, numerous influential theories in management and finance originated at the faculty (random walk hypothesis, binomial options pricing model, and Black-Scholes model). This rich legacy coupled with top positions in world rankings for business schools make MIT Sloan one of the most prestigious establishments today.
MIT Sloan offer both undergraduate and postgraduate programs, ranging across all areas of business and management. Its MBA is the flagship program and reflects the school’s culture of rigour and innovation. The faculty distributes its own research magazine, the MIT Sloan Management Review.
In 1972, MIT Sloan teacher Jay Forrester published his book Limits to Growth, considered a precursor to thinking around environmental sustainability. The faculty is home to the only labour group in a US business school, the Institute for Work and Employment Research. In 2006, the Sustainability Initiative at MIT Sloan was created. It aims at integrating sustainability in the curriculum of the school, as well as encouraging research and engaging different stakeholders in making progress towards creating a sustainable world.
