Overview
Our Watch is an independent Australian not-for-profit organisation established in 2013 under the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children. It aims to drive nationwide change in attitudes, behaviours and power imbalances that lead to violence against women and children.
The organisation operates nationally, working with governments, institutions and communities to embed gender equality as a foundation for prevention.
Mission and focus areas
Our Watch focuses on the primary prevention of violence against women by addressing its underlying drivers, particularly gender inequality. Its work centres on shifting social norms, promoting respectful relationships, and embedding equality across workplaces, education systems and public institutions.
Through evidence-based frameworks, it supports policy development, organisational practice and cultural change. This contributes indirectly to ESG and social sustainability by strengthening governance, workplace culture and human rights considerations relevant to long-term value creation.
Structure and governance
Our Watch is a national organisation jointly funded by the Australian Government and state and territory governments. It operates under a board-led governance model supported by an executive leadership team and specialist staff across jurisdictions.
Its structure includes advisory and steering groups, such as dedicated committees focused on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander strategies, reflecting its collaborative and multi-stakeholder approach.
Programs and offerings
Our Watch develops research-informed frameworks, tools and programmes to guide prevention efforts. Key outputs include “Change the Story”, a national framework outlining evidence-based actions to prevent violence, alongside complementary resources addressing specific populations and settings.
It also delivers workplace guidance, education initiatives and public awareness programmes, including resources for schools and employers. These offerings provide practical tools for organisations seeking to integrate gender equality and social risk considerations into strategy and operations.
