Overview
ODI Global (Overseas Development Institute) is an independent, non-profit global affairs think tank founded in 1960 to address international development and humanitarian challenges. It is headquartered in London, with offices in Brussels and Washington, DC, and is recognised for evidence-based research and policy advice on global issues including development, climate and equity. Mission and focus areas
ODI’s mission is to inspire and inform policy and practice to confront global injustice and inequality. Its core activities include producing applied research, practical policy analysis and convening stakeholders to influence decision-making at national and international levels. The organisation’s thematic focus spans climate and sustainability, development and public finance, digital societies, gender equality and social inclusion, global risks and resilience, humanitarian policy, international economic development and politics and governance. Through these areas, ODI contributes to debates that intersect with sustainable finance, climate resilience and ESG-related policy frameworks, offering evidence that supports integration of sustainability principles into public and private decision-making. Structure and governance
ODI operates with more than 220 staff, including researchers, communicators and specialist support teams. It is governed by a Board of Trustees responsible for strategic direction and performance oversight, with Sara Pantuliano serving as Chief Executive. Leadership includes directors overseeing key programmes and regional offices such as ODI Europe and ODI Global Washington. ODI also has a wholly owned subsidiary, ODI Global Advisory, which conducts consultancy work to support the think tank’s mission and returns profits to the parent charity. ODI: Think change
Programs and offerings
ODI produces a wide range of research publications, policy reports, insights and events that inform global development practice and policy. Its programmes and initiatives include thematic research clusters, flagship projects, and capacity-building schemes such as the ODI Fellowship Scheme, which places early-career professionals in government agencies. ODI’s outputs are used by policymakers, practitioners, academics and international organisations to support evidence-based decision-making and advance sustainable development outcomes.
