Overview
Pensions for Purpose was established in 2017 as a UK-based membership platform to promote the integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations into pension investments. Its mission is to connect asset owners, managers and advisers to accelerate capital flows towards impact investments that benefit people and the planet.
Mission and focus areas
The organisation focuses on embedding sustainable and impact investing within the pensions sector. It aims to enhance understanding of how capital allocation can address climate change, social inequality and long-term value creation. Through education, research and dialogue, it helps pension funds and institutional investors align portfolios with sustainability and responsible investment goals.
Structure and governance
Pensions for Purpose operates as a certified B Corporation, reflecting its commitment to high standards of social and environmental performance. It is supported by a leadership team, board of directors and advisory group comprising finance, sustainability and policy experts. Its governance framework promotes transparency, accountability and collaboration with industry partners across the investment ecosystem.
Programs and offerings
The organisation provides a range of resources, including its Knowledge Centre featuring case studies, blogs, podcasts and thought leadership. It also delivers training and facilitation services, such as impact investment workshops for local government pension schemes. Members gain access to research via the Impact Lens programme, events, and an active community of over 400 organisations. Through these offerings, Pensions for Purpose supports the pensions industry in developing ESG strategies, implementing impact frameworks and sharing best practice across the sector.
