OVERVIEW
Sustainalytics is a company that rates the sustainability of listed companies based on their environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) performance. Following its acquisition of GES International on 9 January 2019, Sustainalytics has more than 500 employees with offices in 17 cities around the world and over 500 institutional investor clients.
Sustainalytics has a large variety of ESG products and services, these include, ESG integration, positive impact, compliance and screening, portfolio analysis, engagement services, delivery channels, index services, sustainable finance solutions, and civil society.
ESG integration focuses on unlocking the long-term value by incorporating ESG criteria into investment decisions. For example, integrating company-level ESG ratings and analysis into key investment processes.
Positive impact relates to aligning the investment strategy to a more just and sustainable economy. For example, their sustainable product research identifies companies that are involved in a range of products and services this contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Compliance and screening involve managing compliance and reputation risks when constructing the investable universe. For example, the Global Standards Screening (GSS) assesses companies impact on stakeholders and the extent to which a company causes, contributes or is linked to violations of international norms and standards.
Portfolio analysis involves monitoring a portfolio’s ESG performance and applying custom screens. For example, applying a selection of screening criteria to the portfolio and monitor holdings for compliance with the support of the Sustainalytics portfolio screening service.
Engagement services manage reputation risk and increase corporate accountability through proactive, professional and constructive engagement. Engagement services include global standards, stewardship and risk, and emerging marketing engagement.
Delivery channels involve different ways of gaining access to Sustainalytics research products through global access, API and data feeds, and third-party platforms.
They provide index research services to construct and maintain ESG and sustainability indexes with their research and support.
Sustainable finance solutions are provided to aid in going to market with a credible sustainable bond or clients can license their ESG rating for capital raising activities.
