Russel (Russ) Alivio

Russel (Russ) is one of our mentors based in Sydney. He holds a broad range of ESG experience from various roles within Australia, as well as in Vietnam where he worked with a leading NFP organisation seeking to empower disadvantaged and at-risk youth.

PROFILE

Russ is a NSW-admitted lawyer and has since worked at global legal and financial organisations; now working at a FinTech headquartered in Europe. He is also a certified Anti-Money Laundering (AML) specialist who currently works at a FinTech subsidiary of a European investment bank within the Legal and Regulatory Compliance function. He is keen on promoting the understanding of financial crime disruption on global ESG efforts and holds a broader interest in ESG by virtue of its multidisciplinary principles and benefits (beyond being a source of alpha), and hopes to see ESG continue to be integrated with its broader and crucial role in shaping a sustainable future.

Russ first pursued his interest in ESG through his university studies, as well as through his publications within the Macquarie University Law Society (MULS) magazine where he spearheaded various ESG-centric issues under the cloak of issues within international environmental, humanitarian and armed conflict law. In his final winter break, Russ then represented Macquarie University to work with a leading social enterprise in Vietnam which provided a wealth of first-hand experience in a radically different environment from Australia, and to provide direct contribution to those in need.

When he isn’t burning the midnight oil, Russ enjoys his downtime through bushwalking, mountain trekking and diving. He also shares one of his top-3 bucket list items as “visiting as many natural marvels around the world before that opportunity closes for good“.
