Overview
ISEAL Alliance is an international non-profit organisation founded in 2002 that supports the development of credible sustainability standards and certification systems. It operates as a global membership body, working to strengthen the effectiveness of sustainability initiatives and improve outcomes for people and the environment.
Mission and focus areas
ISEAL’s mission is to accelerate positive change by improving the impacts of sustainability systems through collaboration, innovation and shared learning.
Its core activities include defining good practice for sustainability standards, convening stakeholders, and providing technical guidance and training. Through tools such as the ISEAL Code of Good Practice, it helps organisations design credible systems and supports businesses and policymakers in evaluating sustainability performance and risks.
Structure and governance
ISEAL Alliance operates as a UK-registered charity governed by a Board of Directors, with day-to-day management led by an Executive Director and leadership team.
The governance framework ensures accountability, strategic oversight and alignment with its charitable mission. The organisation collaborates with members, partners and advisory groups across sectors, reflecting a multi-stakeholder approach to sustainability standards development and implementation.
Programs and offerings
ISEAL’s primary output is the ISEAL Code of Good Practice, which sets globally recognised benchmarks for sustainability systems across areas such as governance, assurance and impact measurement.
In addition, it provides research, guidance, capacity-building programmes and collaborative platforms to support continuous improvement in sustainability standards. These resources enable organisations to enhance transparency, credibility and impact, making them particularly relevant for finance professionals assessing ESG risks, performance and value creation.

The scale of the global challenges we face requires constantly evolving approaches, so collaboration and innovation are essential.
As well as sustainability systems, we work closely with governments, businesses and NGOs to drive improvements and transform places and industries.
