Overview
Climate Funds Update is an independent website and data platform providing comprehensive information on the growing landscape of multilateral climate finance initiatives. It serves as a monitoring tool to track how international financial resources are being deployed to help developing countries mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change.
Mission and focus areas
The initiative focuses on increasing transparency regarding the quantity and quality of financial flows through multilateral climate change funds. Key focus areas include tracking finance for mitigation, adaptation, and REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation) across various regions including Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, East Asia and Pacific, and the Middle East and North Africa.
Structure and governance
Climate Funds Update is a joint initiative. While it operates as an independent data source, it is supported and managed by the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) and other partners. It monitors funds that have critical political significance in fulfilling commitments made by developed countries under the UNFCCC.
Programs and offerings
The platform offers a detailed Data Dashboard that allows users to filter financial flows by theme, region, or specific fund. It also produces “Climate Finance Fundamentals,” a series of introductory briefings that explain the architecture of global climate finance, and regularly publishes news and analysis on the status of multilateral climate funds.
