Overview
The Global Climate Policy Project (GCPP) is a joint academic initiative established between Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). It facilitates research and dialogue on global climate change policy, bringing together expertise from the Harvard Project on Climate Agreements and the MIT Joint Program on the Science and Policy of Global Change.
Mission and focus areas
The project focuses on the design and implementation of economically sound and politically feasible international climate policy architectures. Key areas of focus include energy systems modeling, economic impact analysis of climate regulations, and the development of frameworks for international cooperation under global climate agreements.
Structure and governance
Governance is shared between faculty and researchers from both institutions. It leverages the institutional resources of the Harvard Kennedy School and the MIT Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research (CEEPR) to provide a platform for cross-institutional academic collaboration.
Programs and offerings
The project produces research papers, policy briefs, and organized workshops that engage with international negotiators, government officials, and industry leaders. It primarily provides analytical support for the development of post-2020 climate policy frameworks and the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
