Established in 1983, the organisation focuses on European Union policy and governance issues through evidence-based research, policy analysis and stakeholder dialogue. CEPS aims to support informed decision-making by examining economic, social, environmental and regulatory developments affecting Europe.
The organisation operates as a forum for discussion between policymakers, academics, businesses, civil society organisations and financial institutions. Its work is intended to provide practical policy recommendations and contribute to debate on long-term European and global challenges.
Mission and focus areas
CEPS conducts research across a broad range of policy areas, including finance, banking, climate and energy policy, digital regulation, trade, migration, social affairs, taxation, security and global governance. The organisation’s mission is to produce independent and constructive policy research that addresses emerging European challenges and supports effective policymaking.
The organisation contributes to sustainable finance and ESG-related discussions through research on climate transition policy, green investment, sustainable economic governance, circular economy initiatives and EU sustainability regulation. CEPS also publishes analysis on topics such as ESG markets, climate neutrality, green industrial policy and sustainable investment frameworks, which are relevant for finance professionals assessing regulatory and sustainability risks.
Structure and governance
CEPS operates as an independent non-profit organisation with an in-house research team supported by networks of partner institutes, academic experts and policy specialists. The organisation is led by a Chief Executive Officer and senior research directors overseeing thematic research units and programmes.
Its governance framework includes collaboration with advisory bodies, research networks and institutional partners across Europe and internationally. CEPS maintains institutional independence by supporting the individual independence of its researchers and by facilitating dialogue among multiple stakeholder groups.
