OVERVIEW
Founded in 2007, the Climate Disclosure Standards Board (CDSB) is an international consortium of nine business and environmental NGOs. They are committed to advancing and aligning the global mainstream corporate reporting model to equate natural capital with financial capital.
The CDSB offers companies a framework for reporting environmental and climate information with the same rigour as financial information. This helps them to provide investors with decision-useful environmental and climate information via the mainstream corporate report, enhancing the efficient allocation of capital.
Collectively, CDSB aims to contribute to more sustainable economic, social, and environmental systems.
CDSB’s work on climate and natural capital reporting helps many groups working towards a sustainable financial system:
- Investors have better quality information about the climate and environmental opportunities and risks disclosed by a company, enabling better informed capital allocation decisions;
- Companies can use the CDSB Framework to incorporate climate change and natural capital-related information in their financial reports. The CDSB Framework can help them understand how environmental issues affect their performance and the actions they could take to address the related risks and opportunities;
- Regulators can benefit from standards-ready material and a framework that can be immediately adopted as a method of compliance or guidance;
- Stock exchanges can consider new voluntary and mandatory listing requirements, taking into account climate change and natural capital-related risks and opportunities;
- Accounting firms can provide more comprehensive assurance of companies reporting on climate change and natural capital-related performance;
- Analysts can be better equipped to utilise climate change and natural capital-related information in determining impacts on future cash flow and ultimately company valuations.
CDSB is headquartered in London with offices in Brussels and Berlin.
