OVERVIEW
The First Nations Clean Energy Network is comprised of First Nations people, community organisations, land councils, unions, academics, and others who work in partnership to achieve the common goal of ensuring that First Nations communities have access to clean energy. All members of the Network are cultural leaders who specialise in areas such as the clean energy industry, law, investment, academia, unions, business, and various community sectors. They work in partnership to ensure that all decisions are made logically and diligently to protect our country as efficiently as possible for the generations to come.
The First Nations Clean Energy Network is a network with a common vision which will enable First Nations people to share the economic benefits, job opportunities and ready access to lower-cost and reliable power in the community, while also ensuring they address issues of climate change. They work to address barriers to clean, affordable, and reliable power so that First Nations people can continue to live and work of country land. The network was formed to ensure the rapid transition to renewable energy occurs fairly for First Nations people and communities.
Some of their priorities include:
- Facilitate community-owned renewable energy projects to provide affordable and dependable energy solutions.
- Generate employment opportunities and boost local economies, enabling First Nation communities to live and work on their ancestral lands.
- Foster robust partnerships with the renewable energy industry, ensuring the equitable distribution of benefits in a sustainable future.
An additional aim of the network is in supporting community owned renewable projects to deliver lower-cost and reliable energy. In doing this, they power job opportunities and strong economies to allow First Nations people to live and work off the Australian land.
MISSION STATEMENT
We will work to:
- Support communities to drive the development of clean energy projects that provide direct benefits to residents through reduced household energy costs and more reliable energy
- Establish an innovation hub, promoting the implementation of best practice principles that should underpin all agreements for land use and benefit sharing between First Nations groups, companies and investors, while building community capacity through training and employment for First Nations people to participate in the renewable energy sector.
- Advocate to lift significant federal and state regulatory barriers to renewable energy development and stoke government investment in technology, innovation and infrastructure.
