OVERVIEW
The Institute of Actuaries of Australia (Actuaries Institute) is committed to promoting and maintaining a high standard of actuarial practice and represents and supports its members through continuous professional development, professional and ethical standards, research, events and seminars, policy submissions, thought leadership and expert analysis.
The institute’s aim is to build a strong actuarial profession and community across Australia and Asia that is in high demand both now, and in the future, across regulatory and non-regulatory roles in financial services and the broader economy.
Actuaries apply their risk management expertise to allocate capital efficiently, identify and mitigate emerging risks and to help maintain system integrity across multiple segments of the financial and other sectors. The institute seeks to maintain a high level of technical financial expertise and integrity across the industry.
Where there is uncertainty of future financial outcomes the Actuaries Institute provides expert comment on public policy issues. The institute comments and provides resources on a wide range of issues including life insurance, health insurance, general insurance, climate change, retirement income policy, enterprise risk and prudential regulation, finance and investment and health financing. For instance, the organisation has written and published a series of papers called ‘The Dialogue’. An edition in the series is ‘the impact of climate change on mortality and retirement incomes in Australia’.
In terms of professional standards and guidance, Actuaries Institute is committed to promoting and maintaining a high standard of actuarial practice, both for the protection of the public and the reputation of the actuarial profession. This is achieved by providing quality practice guidance and maintaining and enforcing strict professional standards.
