OVERVIEW
JUST Capital was co-founded in 2013 by a group of concerned people from the world of business, finance, and civil society. It has been established as a not-for-profit registered charity, thereby ensuring that JUST Capital is exclusively geared towards achieving its mission.
JUST Capital’s goal is to assist in bringing about a more just economy that serves the best interests of society. They describe themselves as “capitalists committed to stakeholder capitalism,” believing that business must be a greater force for good and that markets must be part of the solution.
The aim is to drive investment capital toward more just companies, thereby incentivising a more just and equitable marketplace.
JUST Capital’s methodology is:
- Each year, JUST Capital talks to approximately 10,000 people, on what business practices matter most and how they think corporations should behave.
- From this research, JUST Capital determines the key issues driving just corporate behaviour.
- JUST Capital then evaluates the performance of companies in relation to the issues identified by the US public. The selection of companies draws from the Russell 1000 Index, which represents over 90% of the US stock market value.
Rankings, indexes, and financial analysis used by JUST Capital demonstrate the business and investor case for just business behaviour.
JUST Capital works with an independent Research Advisory Council of academics, economists, and subject matter experts to ensure that there is rigor around its methodology, which is publicly accessible.
Reports and research are produced by JUST Capital and cover a wide range of topics relating to corporate behaviour. Included in this research is an ongoing financial analysis series – JUST Alpha – which explores the connection between just corporate behaviour and investor returns.
The research is of value to investors, consumers and companies.
