OVERVIEW
Overview
Trellis Group (formerly GreenBiz) is a US-based commercial platform dedicated to accelerating the business of sustainability. Founded in 1991 as the Green Business Letter — one of the first sustainability-focused newsletters — the organisation has grown over more than 25 years into a global hub uniting events, peer networks, and digital media. In 2024, GreenBiz Group rebranded as Trellis Group to reflect the evolution of both the industry and the company itself.
Mission and focus areas
Trellis Group’s mission is to empower sustainability professionals to confront the climate crisis through industry-leading events, peer networks, and digital media. The organisation focuses on accelerating sustainability practice across key thematic areas including decarbonisation, circularity, sustainable finance and ESG, nature, supply chain, and social impact. By connecting sustainability leaders at companies worldwide, Trellis aims to scale collective impact against the threats of climate change.
Structure and governance
Trellis Group Inc. is a privately held commercial organisation led by Co-founders Joel Makower (Chairman) and Pete May (President), alongside CEO Hana Kajimura. The leadership team includes senior executives overseeing conferences, sustainable finance, network operations, creative, people and culture, and finance functions. The Trellis Network membership programme is open to sustainability executives and practitioners at qualifying companies meeting a revenue threshold, and is not available to consultants, universities, NGOs, or media organisations.
Programs and offerings
Trellis Group’s core offerings span three pillars: events, peer networks, and digital media. Flagship in-person events include the annual GreenBiz conference and Trellis Impact, bringing together thousands of thought leaders, innovators, and practitioners. The Trellis Network is a membership-based peer community of 150+ member companies (with an annual fee of $20,000 for unlimited seats), offering peer benchmarking, exclusive in-person and virtual meetings held under Chatham House Rule, and nine specialist communities covering areas such as Decarbonization, Circularity, Finance & ESG, and Supply Chain. Digital media offerings include the Trellis website, the Trellis Briefing newsletter (reaching 50,000+ readers), webinars, research reports, and a sustainability job board.
