OVERVIEW
World Economic Forum (WEF) was established in 1971 as a not-for-profit foundation and is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. WEF strives to demonstrate entrepreneurship in the global public interest while upholding the highest standards of governance.
WEF activities are shaped by a unique institutional culture founded on the stakeholder theory, which asserts that an organisation is accountable to all parts of society. WEF carefully blends and balances the best of many kinds of organisations, from both the public and private sectors, international organisations and academic institutions. They believe that progress happens by bringing together people from all walks of life who have the drive and the influence to make positive change.
WEF’s activities take place at the intersection of three key strategic challenges:
Mastering the Fourth Industrial Revolution – In the next decade, it is expected that emerging technologies will transform entire systems of production, distribution and consumption. The merging of physical, digital and biological technologies presents an opportunity to rethink how countries develop and how organisations create value. The real opportunity is to look beyond technology and find ways to give the greatest number of people the ability to positively impact their families, organisations and communities.
Solving the problems of the Global Commons – WEF hosts communities that tackle global problems with new models of public-private cooperation and the application of breakthrough science technology solutions.
Addressing global security issues – WEF works to develop strategies for leaders to respond to the rapidly changing security landscape of increasing geostrategic competition, regionalism and new antagonists eroding global solidarity.
For more than 50 years, WEF has engaged global Partners to drive significant impact – creating historic initiatives, industry breakthroughs, economic solutions and tens of thousands of projects and collaborations.
