Overview
The TRATON GROUP is a transportation powerhouse and one of the world’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, headquartered in Munich, Germany. Established in 2018 when Volkswagen Truck & Bus was renamed TRATON GROUP, the company completed its initial public offering (IPO) in June 2019, with shares listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and on Nasdaq Stockholm. TRATON SE is a European company (Societas Europaea) incorporated under the laws of the European Union and the Federal Republic of Germany, and operates as a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group. In fiscal year 2025, the Group reported sales revenue of €44,052 million, employs more than 107,000 people, and operates 26 major production sites worldwide across Europe, North America, Latin America, Asia, and Africa.
Mission and focus areas
The TRATON GROUP’s shared purpose is “Transforming Transportation Together. For a sustainable world.” The Group aims to reinvent transportation through its products, services, and partnerships, driving the shift toward a sustainable transport system. Key focus areas include the decarbonisation of commercial vehicles through battery-electric mobility, the development of charging infrastructure, digital transformation, and the advancement of autonomous driving. TRATON is committed to the Paris Agreement and integrates economic, ecological, and social considerations across its entire value chain, aiming to generate the greatest possible benefit for customers and society over the full lifecycle of its products.
Structure and governance
TRATON SE is governed by a seven-member Executive Board and a Supervisory Board. The Group’s overarching strategy — the TRATON Way Forward — is structured around four interconnected pillars: (1) Responsible Company, emphasising decarbonisation, circularity, and human rights; (2) Value Creation, centred on customer outcomes and long-term financial performance, including a target adjusted operating return on sales of 9–11% by 2029; (3) TRATON Accelerated!, focusing on new business models in electrification, autonomous driving, and connectivity; and (4) Strategy Execution, built around the TRATON Modular System and shared Group functions for R&D, purchasing, production, and logistics. TRATON SE is headquartered in Munich, Germany, with a secondary Group holding entity, TRATON AB, located in Södertälje, Sweden.
Programs and offerings
The TRATON GROUP comprises four major vehicle brands: Scania (a global premium innovation leader for sustainable transportation solutions, including trucks and buses for sophisticated applications); MAN (offering a full range from light commercial vehicles to heavy-duty trucks); International (manufacturing trucks under the International brand and buses under IC Bus for markets in the USA, Canada, and Mexico); and Volkswagen Truck & Bus (value-oriented products for growth markets in Latin America, Africa, and Asia). Complementing these brands, TRATON operates three service entities: TRATON Financial Services (financial solutions tailored to the commercial vehicle sector), TRATON Charging Solutions (dedicated to simplifying electric commercial transport), and RIO (a cloud-based logistics service provider). The Group also co-leads Milence, a charging infrastructure joint venture with Daimler Truck and the Volvo Group, targeting 90 operational charging hubs across Europe by the end of 2028.
