OVERVIEW
World Wildlife Fund (WWF) works in over 100 nations to deliver solutions that positively impact communities, wildlife and their living environments. WWF works to benefit thousands of local communities to help them conserve their own natural resources that they rely on. WWF also lobbies markets and policies towards being more sustainable to protect and restore natural habitats. The goal of their efforts is to ensure that the value of nature is reflected in decision making all the way from a local to global standpoint.
WWF acts as a bridge between conservation science and their collective partners who can make a change in their field. WWF have approximately five million supporters globally (as at 2022), with support coming from individuals, partnerships with governments, other organisations and companies, and communities.
WWF aims to ensure that the world’s most important fisheries and ocean ecosystems are productive and resilient and improve livelihoods and biodiversity; the most iconic and endangered species are secured and recovering in the wild; the integrity of our most important forests, including their benefits to human well-being, is enhanced and maintained; freshwater ecosystems and flow regimes provide water for people and nature; a global shift toward a low carbon and climate-resilient future is achieved; and, sustainable food systems conserve nature and maintain food security.
WWF works with banks, insurers, regulators and others to demonstrate how risks like climate change, water scarcity and biodiversity loss affect investments and how to respond. For example, pressing financial institutions to align their portfolios with the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement. WWF is also encouraging investment in sustainable development, working with the finance sector to mobilise resources for conserving and restoring nature.
