Established in 2004, the Climate Group works to accelerate climate action by bringing together networks of businesses and governments to influence global markets and policies. The goal is to ensure that the world has no more than 1.5 degrees Celsius of global warming, leading to greater prosperity.

Using the power of communication to build ambition and pace, the Climate Group aims to take innovations and solutions to scale, focussing on the greatest global opportunities for change.

Current projects involve both government and business-related action. Examples include:

• The Under2 Coalition, a global community of state and regional governments that are committed to ambitious climate action in line with the Paris Agreement. Established in 2015, the coalition brings together more than 220 governments representing over 1.3 billion people and 43% of the global economy. They are committed to keeping global temperature rises below 2 degrees Celcius.

The Climate Group is the Secretariat to the Under2 Coalition. They work with governments to provide technical support and resources, share policy innovation and successes, and increase the accountability of governments by encouraging them to disclose their climate targets, actions, and progress.

• The RE100, which involves the world’s most influential companies committed to 100% renewable power.  Led by the Climate Group and CDP, RE100 is a global corporate leadership initiative, bringing together influential businesses to scale-up renewable power for a more sustainable world. Its purpose is to accelerate change towards zero-carbon grids on a global scale.
