Asia Research and Engagement (ARE) is a privately-held, independent environmental, social and governance (ESG) risk and strategy consulting firm. Founded in 2013 by Benjamin McCarron, ARE is intended to address the gap in high-quality, independent research on responsible finance in Asia.

ARE works with investors, banks, companies and not-for-profits, providing insight on how to integrate sustainability and governance factors into processes. It also provides a network of partners and researchers across Asia that provide in-depth analysis, emphasising the financial relevance of the issues they cover. ARE’s key focus areas are the energy transition, sustainable real estate and infrastructure, sustainable protein, sustainable finance and responsible investment, and corporate governance.

With a team of six employees based in Singapore, ARE provides services in three main areas: research, engagement, and consulting. ARE performs industry and company research that provides strategic insight into key ESG issues. ARE also engages with senior management on company strategy regarding ESG issues on behalf of investors. Last, ARE’s consulting services aim to provide advice on deepening ESG integration into company strategy.

ARE is funded by income from its research, strategy and consulting services. This includes commissioned reports funded by a variety of organisations, such as Credit Suisse and Asian Corporate Governance Association.
