Australasian Centre for Corporate Responsibility (ACCR) is a research and shareholder advocacy organisation. It focuses on engaging with investors on how listed companies, industry associations, and other entities are managing climate, labour, human rights and governance issues. It publishes research and analysis on various environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices and has a small portfolio of shares that it holds for the purpose of engaging with companies, including through the filing of shareholder resolutions.
After a shareholder has registered their shares to participate in ACCR’s work, ACCR conducts research, engages with companies and affected communities and puts forward proposals to these companies with its registered shareholders. Once the resolution gets put on the notice of the meeting, ACCR will speak to it at the annual general meeting.
ACCR is a member of the UN Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI) and the Responsible Investment Association of Australasia (RIAA). The organisation is registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission, and its Research Fund has Deductible Gift Recipient status so donations to ACCR’s Research Fund by Australians are tax-deductible.
- Climate: ACCR wants the activities of major companies to support a safe climate and a thriving natural environment. It focuses on Australia’s largest emitting companies and their investors. It has also established a Global Climate team, which seeks to influence and empower global investors to play their role in transforming global companies to ensure a safer climate.
- Social impacts: ACCR wants Australian-listed corporations to understand and take into account the long-term interests of all stakeholders from Traditional Owners to front-line workers.
- Governance: ACCR monitors Australian corporate governance trends and identifies developments that impact on ethical investors.
Purpose:
To promote ethical investment and assist ethical investors so that humanity may live more justly and within the carrying capacity of supporting ecosystems. It will do this through education, research, collaboration, engagement and advocacy.
The Australasian Centre for Corporate Responsibility relies on grants and donations to fund its work. It has never received support from any listed companies.
