Overview
Fair Finance International (FFI) is an international civil society network of over 150 CSO partners and allies. Coordinated by Oxfam Novib, the organization works to strengthen the commitment of financial institutions to act on and adhere to Social, Environmental, and Human Rights standards. The network operates through various national coalitions across the globe, including presence in Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America.
Mission and focus areas
FFI’s mission is to shift financial systems away from harmful practices to those that respect and protect human rights and the planet. Key focus areas include climate impact, human rights, and the social and environmental well-being of local communities. The organization promotes a “race to the top” by encouraging financial institutions to adopt more sustainable lending and investment policies.
Structure and governance
FFI is a global network coordinated by Oxfam Novib. It functions as a collaboration of independent civil society coalitions. Notable partners include organizations such as Amnesty International Netherlands, Friends of the Earth Netherlands, and WWF Philippines. It also collaborates closely with Fair Finance Asia, a regional network of over 90 civil society organizations.
Programs and offerings
FFI uses a rigorous and unique methodology for policy assessments to benchmark the investment policies of financial institutions. These assessments, combined with FFI case studies, enable fact-based dialogue with financial institutions and companies. The organization also provides rankings and guides, such as the Fair Finance Guide, which allow consumers, policy holders, and citizens to demand more socially responsible and sustainable investments.
