OVERVIEW
IGCC represents institutional investors, with total funds under management of over $2 trillion, and others in the investment community interested in the impact of climate change on investments. The IGCC aims to encourage government policies and investment practices that address the risks and opportunities of climate change, for the ultimate benefit of superannuants and unit holders.
The organisation aims to:
- Raise awareness of the potential impacts, both positive and negative, resulting from climate change to the investment industry, corporate, government and community sectors;
- Encourage best practice approaches to facilitate the inclusion of the impacts of climate change in investment analysis by the investment industry; and
- Provide information to assist the investment industry to understand and incorporate climate change into the investment decision.
IGCC is one of the four regional climate change investor groups that comprise the Global Investor Coalition on Climate Change (GIC), along with Institutional Investor Group on Climate Change (IIGCC – Europe), Ceres Investor Network on Climate Risk and Sustainability (Ceres – North America) and Asia Investor Group on Climate Change (AIGCC – Asia). The coalition provides a global platform for dialogue between investors and governments on climate policy, facilitates corporate engagement on climate risk, and supports increased low carbon investment.
In 2016, IGCC helped to relaunch the AIGCC, which is currently a subsidiary of the IGCC. AIGCC operates under the governance and as part of the structure of the IGCC while maintaining an independent member network.
