OVERVIEW
MinterEllison is an Australian law firm that offers legal and consulting services. It is Australia’s largest law firm by market share. Based in Australia, it has branches globally, with a strong presence in the Asia Pacific region.
MinterEllison’s clientele includes the government, private and publicly listed companies, and small and large businesses in Australia and overseas. Its legal services span industries such as energy and resources, financial services, government, infrastructure and real estate.
MinterEllison recognises climate risk as an issue facing all businesses and a material financial risk. It sees accelerating regulatory and investor expectations on climate risk assessment and disclosure, as posing both risks and opportunities.
To advise its clients on climate risk governance, MinterEllison combines commercial law acumen with cross disciplinary expertise across a number of fields including economics, risk management and science. This approach has placed MinterEllison at the international forefront in advising on climate risk governance for the past decade.
MinterEllison also provides advice on a broad range of environmental, social and governance (‘ESG’) related regulatory requirements and shifting community expectations. It recognises ESG concerns becoming the core of board, executive and auditor considerations as businesses come under increasing scrutiny with respect to those issues.
MinterEllison is also involved with initiatives related to assessing and ameliorating the effects of climate change, including the Chancery Lane Project, the Climate Measurement Standards Initiative and the Climate Foundation.
In 2017, MinterEllison produced a report on climate change related litigation risk. This was done in collaboration with a research consortium focused on assessing the financial risk associated with the energy transition from fossil fuels to renewable sources.
MinterEllison is a member of the Australian Legal Sector Alliance, an organisation of law firms whose objective is to work collaboratively in promoting sustainable practices across the legal sector.
