OVERVIEW
Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development has its roots dating back to the aftermath of WW2, where European leaders realised that the best way to achieve lasting peace was to seek the cooperation and reconstruction rather than punish defeated war torn nations as their predecessors did after WW1.
The organisation works on establishing evidence based international standards and attempt to find solutions to environmental, social and economic challenges. OECD helps to improve economic performance, creation of jobs, harbours stronger education and fights international tax evasion. They provide a hub for a forum and knowledge so that nations can exchange experiences and give advice on public policies that lead to the establishment of international standards. OECD’s working model can be broke down into three main points:
Inform and Advise: Give knowledge and advice to ensure better policies are implemented due to their trusted sources of comparative socio-economic data.
Engage and influence: Bringing policy makers together to exchange ideas and experience in the hopes of creating better policy in a range of areas.
Set standards and policy support: Encourage nations to develop international standards to ensure global boundaries and objectives are met.
Currently there are 38 members in the OECD with their standards, programmes and initiatives helping reform and influence of more than 100 nations around the world. OECD countries and key partners currently represent about 80% of the worlds trade and investment. This shows that the organisation is affluent in the means of achieving sustainable finance globally as they have set objectives on positive investment and policy reform in areas of green energy, education and tax reforms that generate positive outcome for current and future generations.
