The Materials and Embodied Carbon Leaders’ Alliance (MECLA) is a consortium of organisations working together to drive reductions in embodied carbon in the building and construction industry. It brings together different sectors across the supply chain to facilitate transition and collaborative action.

Mission and focus areas

MECLA’s mission is to drive the reduction of embodied carbon in the building and construction industry. Its focus areas include decarbonising the building and construction supply chain, sharing knowledge through case studies, and creating guides for low-carbon materials such as concrete and data centre infrastructure.

Structure and governance

MECLA operates as a coalition that includes industry members, government bodies, and research organisations. It is supported by Climate-KIC Australia and includes a network of over 190 organisations working toward common decarbonisation goals.

Programs and offerings

MECLA’s offerings include the development of industry guides, such as the Guide to Low Carbon Concrete and the Nature Design Guide. The alliance hosts events, shares case studies on decarbonisation, and provides resources to help the industry transition to a zero-carbon materials economy.
