Overview
Repórter Brasil is an independent non-governmental investigative journalism and research organisation based in São Paulo, Brazil. It was established in 2001 by a group of journalists, social scientists and educators to document and publicise violations of fundamental rights, particularly in labour and socio-environmental contexts. Over more than two decades, it has become a recognised source of detailed reporting on human rights and labour abuses, including contemporary slave labour in Brazilian supply chains.
Mission and focus areas
Repórter Brasil’s core mission is to identify and make public situations that breach labour rights and cause socio-environmental harm in Brazil, aiming to mobilise social, political and economic leaders towards a more just and equitable society. Its work centres on investigative journalism, rigorous research and analyses that expose violations in the workplace, rural areas, supply chains and environmental contexts. The organisation’s reporting supports transparency and accountability, providing data that can inform sustainable practice, responsible sourcing and rights-based decision-making by public and private actors.
Structure and governance
Repórter Brasil operates with a small core team of journalists and researchers. It was founded with a multidisciplinary ethos and continues to combine expertise from journalism, social research and education. Leadership includes a general coordinator and reporting teams focused on thematic areas such as human rights, world of work, traditional peoples and socio-environmental issues. The organisation collaborates with civil society partners, researchers and campaigners to extend its impact.
Programs and offerings
Repórter Brasil produces investigative reports, thematic dossiers and long-form journalism on labour, human rights and environmental issues. Its outputs include multimedia storytelling, special projects, podcasts and podcasts that delve into field research and real-world cases of abuse and exploitation. The organisation also runs a research programme that supports civil society campaigns and legal actions, providing data, analysis and insights on supply chains, policy changes and socio-economic impacts. These resources serve practitioners, policymakers and stakeholders interested in human rights compliance and sustainable development.
Our mission
