Overview
The Global Mind Health (formerly Mental State of the World) benchmark series, produced by the Global Mind Project, examines trends in mind health across the internet-enabled global population. The series was initiated in 2019 and provides an ongoing comparative benchmark of mental functioning and wellbeing across countries and generations.
Purpose
The benchmark assesses people’s capacity to navigate life’s challenges and function productively. It aims to track how social, behavioural, and environmental conditions influence mind health over time and across geographies, enabling cross-country comparison and long-term monitoring of societal wellbeing trends.
Methodology
The series is based on large-scale online survey data collected through the Mind Health Quotient (MHQ) assessment. The MHQ aggregates responses across multiple dimensions of mental functioning, including cognitive, emotional, social, and behavioural capacities. This approach provides a structured and comparable measure of mind health across populations and reporting periods.
Relevance for finance professionals
For finance professionals, the benchmark provides insight into trends related to human capital, productivity, and broader socioeconomic conditions. The data can support analysis of workforce wellbeing, demographic changes, and societal factors that may influence labour markets, economic resilience, and long-term investment environments.
