The Climate Impact Explorer is a science-based visualisation tool developed by Climate Analytics, in partnership with the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS), Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and ETH Zürich, with support from Bloomberg Philanthropies, ClimateWorks Foundation and the German Ministry for Education and Research ICE. The tool is used by financial consultancies, central banks, insurers, academic researchers and NGOs.
Core capabilities
It presents maps and graphs of projected physical climate impacts—such as changes in temperature, precipitation, economic damages and other indicators—across global, national and sub-national levels. Users can choose warming scenarios (e.g. 1.5 °C, 2 °C) and emission pathways to compare impacts over time (up to 2100) IFC.
More than 30 indicators are available, including river-flood damage projections, crop-failure exposure, wildfire risk, and temperature trends.
Finance-relevant applications
Finance professionals can use the tool to support climate-risk assessment, adaptation planning, investment decision-making, and scenario analysis. It aids physical-risk quantification, region-specific impact evaluation, and informs financial planning under different warming trajectories.
The platform is free to use via browser. It allows custom selection of region and indicators, scenario comparison, visual and data export (e.g. CSV) for further analysis.
