Overview
This benchmark series forms part of the Investor Climate Action Plans (ICAPs) framework developed by The Investor Agenda, with guidance published in 2022. It supports investors in structuring and assessing climate action plans aligned with net zero pathways across investment, engagement, policy advocacy, disclosure and governance.
Purpose of the benchmark
The benchmark provides a consistent framework for evaluating how investors integrate climate-related risks and opportunities into their strategies and operations. It aims to improve comparability, transparency and accountability across the investment community while supporting alignment with a 1.5°C pathway.
Methodology
The methodology is based on the ICAPs Expectations Ladder, a tiered self-assessment tool. It enables organisations to assess their position across defined focus areas and sub-focus areas, using progressive tiers of ambition. This structure helps identify gaps and prioritise actions to strengthen climate strategies.
Use for finance professionals
Finance professionals can use this benchmark to assess current practices, inform strategy development and enhance internal decision-making. It also supports communication of climate-related actions to stakeholders and alignment with evolving reporting frameworks and investor expectations.
