OVERVIEW
The Clean Investment Monitor (CIM) is a data platform created by Rhodium Group and MIT’s Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research (CEEPR) that tracks investments in the manufacture and deployment of clean energy and decarbonisation technologies around the world. Through detailed, facility-level tracking and in-depth analysis, it provides insights into investment trends, the pace and scale of new clean technology manufacturing capacity, and the impact of policies on the evolving global clean energy landscape. Finance professionals, policymakers, and researchers may find it relevant for assessing the scale and trajectory of clean energy capital flows across major economies.
Organisation behind the tool
The CIM was created by Rhodium Group and MIT’s Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research (CEEPR), with contributions from Bruegel, a European think tank. Rhodium Group is an independent research firm, and MIT CEEPR conducts policy-relevant research on energy and environmental economics.
What the tool does
The CIM provides three regional databases — Global, US, and China — each with distinct coverage. The global database leverages facility-level data to provide insights on clean technology manufacturing capacity and investment, and investment in the deployment of clean electricity and industrial decarbonisation projects, for every country around the world. The US database provides facility-level data on investment in the manufacturing and deployment of clean technologies, as well as consumer retail purchases, data by state and congressional district, federal spending estimates, and the pipeline of unspent investment and associated jobs. The China database covers clean technology manufacturing capacity and investment, and deployment of clean electricity and industrial decarbonisation projects. The platform also publishes quarterly and annual reports, including highlights such as tracking that $1.96 trillion was invested globally in 2025.
Target audience
The CIM is intended for use by investors, policymakers, researchers, and analysts interested in clean energy investment trends. Its facility-level granularity and policy-impact analysis make it particularly relevant to finance professionals involved in ESG integration, impact investment, and energy transition research.
Relevance to finance professionals
