OVERVIEW
Overview
The Voices of Aotearoa: Demand for Ethical Investment in New Zealand is an annual benchmark series initiated in 2019. It provides a longitudinal view of how the New Zealand public engages with ethical, responsible and impact investing, enabling consistent comparison of attitudes and behaviours over time.
Purpose
The series is designed to inform investment providers, advisers, policymakers and researchers about consumer expectations related to ethical investment practices. It supports market transparency and helps track shifts in public understanding, trust and engagement with responsible investment approaches.
Methodology
Each edition is based on a nationally representative online survey of New Zealand adults aged 18 and over. The survey instrument is developed collaboratively and administered by an independent research provider, with results weighted by age, gender and region. A consistent methodology is applied year to year to ensure comparability.
Use for finance professionals
Finance professionals can use this benchmark to assess alignment between product offerings and consumer expectations, inform client engagement strategies, and support internal policy development. It also serves as a reference point for monitoring market maturity and informing disclosure, labelling and communication practices across the investment sector.
