OVERVIEW
The Global Project Tracker is an open-access interactive database and mapping tool developed by Mission Possible Partnership (MPP). It plots the global pipeline of commercial-scale, net-zero-aligned clean industrial plants across energy-intensive industrial sectors — including materials, chemicals and fuels. The tracker is described as the leading source of information on clean industry progress, highlighting where momentum is building and where opportunities are waiting to be seized.
Organisation behind the tool
The tracker is maintained by Mission Possible Partnership (MPP), a global initiative focused on accelerating decarbonisation of heavy industry. The Industrial Transition Accelerator (ITA) has also been cited in connection with the tracker’s publications and announcements.
What the tool does
The tracker provides an interactive data map that allows users to identify partners and potential investment opportunities, track regional developments and emerging green industrial hubs, and inform decision-making. It covers heavy industry and transport sectors and is updated every six months. Accompanying half-yearly analyses shed light on the state of transition across these sectors. Model materials and analytics are open-access to promote transparency and collaboration, and to facilitate regular refinement as data and insights evolve. Reports published alongside the tracker include edition-specific insights on investment trends, pipeline growth, and regional developments.
Target audience
The tracker is aimed at industry participants, investors, policymakers, and others involved in or monitoring the decarbonisation of heavy industry. It is designed to help align industry efforts behind strategies considered technically and economically feasible, subject to value-chain collaboration, finance and policy support.
Relevance to finance professionals
The tracker provides finance professionals with visibility over the pipeline of commercial-scale clean industrial projects, including their stage of development and investment status. This is directly relevant for assessing decarbonisation investment trends, identifying opportunities in clean industry, evaluating exposure to stranded-asset risk in carbon-intensive sectors, and informing ESG analysis and impact investment decisions. The tracker reported, for example, that 19 commercial-scale projects worth $43 billion reached final investment decision in a six-month period, and that over 1,000 commercial-scale projects are now recorded globally across all stages of development.
