Overview
This benchmark series provides annual, standardised updates on key indicators of the global climate system and human influence. It was initiated in 2022 to address information gaps between IPCC assessment cycles and to support timely, decision-relevant analysis.
Purpose
The purpose of the series is to offer a consistent and credible reference for tracking changes in the climate system over time. It is designed to improve continuity between major assessment reports and to support evidence-based decision-making across policy, finance, and risk contexts.
Methodology
The benchmark compiles and harmonises global monitoring datasets covering emissions, atmospheric concentrations, radiative forcing, energy balance, temperature change, and related indicators. Methods closely follow those assessed in the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report, with an emphasis on transparency, reproducibility, and alignment with FAIR data principles. Open data and code are used to enable verification and comparability across years.
Use for Finance Professionals
For finance professionals, the series serves as a trusted, science-aligned reference for climate risk assessment, transition analysis, and strategic oversight. It supports longitudinal analysis, comparability across reporting periods, and alignment with climate-related frameworks without relying on bespoke or proprietary modelling.
