OVERVIEW
The Financial Innovation Knowledge Platform is a resource developed by Climate Policy Initiative (CPI) to guide public and private actors working on climate finance. It draws on over a decade of lessons learned from supporting more than 100 financial vehicles through CPI’s programmes, including the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance and the Catalytic Climate Finance Facility, translating these into practical tools, research, and guidance for those developing and investing in climate finance vehicles.
Organisation behind the tool
The platform is developed and maintained by CPI, a global policy and finance research organisation. It sits within CPI’s broader Financial Innovation programme, which encompasses initiatives such as the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance and the Catalytic Climate Finance Facility.
What the tool does
The platform provides access to publications, methodology briefs, blogs, and event resources covering topics such as blended finance, nature-based solutions, gender and climate investment, and capital mobilisation. It tracks capital mobilised by innovative climate finance vehicles and convenes a global network of ecosystem actors — including financial institutions, investors, project developers, entrepreneurs, and corporates — particularly focusing on local actors in the Global South. Key outputs include action briefs, impact reports, and thematic research on specific sectors and regions.
Target audience
The platform is aimed at public and private actors involved in climate finance, including development finance institutions (DFIs), multilateral development banks (MDBs), impact investors, project developers, and policymakers. It is particularly relevant to practitioners in emerging markets and developing economies.
Relevance to finance professionals
The platform supports finance professionals by offering evidence-based guidance on structuring and scaling climate finance vehicles, understanding blended finance mechanisms, and identifying investment pathways in sectors such as restoration, water, and nature-based solutions. It provides methodological frameworks for tracking capital mobilisation and highlights barriers and opportunities for mobilising private capital across specific sectors and regions.
