Overview

CRUSHED is an annual benchmark research series initiated in 2019 by the Safe in India Foundation to assess worker safety conditions across India’s automotive manufacturing supply chain. The series provides a consistent, longitudinal view of occupational safety and labour practices within automotive component and assembly ecosystems.

Purpose

The purpose of the CRUSHED series is to create an evidence-based benchmark that supports informed decision-making by industry, policymakers, and capital providers on workplace safety, labour governance, and supply chain risk management.

Methodology

The benchmark draws on primary data collected annually through worker assistance cases, field engagement, factory-level documentation, and review of relevant regulatory and corporate disclosures. Methodology is applied consistently across years to enable comparability and trend analysis.

Finance professionals can use this benchmark to assess social risk exposure, evaluate supply chain governance quality, support ESG integration, and inform stewardship, engagement, and risk screening processes over time.
